Beauty Mark vs Mole: What’s the Difference

We all love to have smooth, attractive skin. But sometimes, human nature marvels at the imperfections on our bodies. A good example is beauty marks. When you get them, don’t cover them up. Instead, flaunt them because you are still beautiful with them. All you need is to know about them.

What is a Beauty Mark?

A beauty mark is also known as a beauty spot—the euphemism dark spot on your face, neck, shoulder, or any other body part. The marks look beautiful and attractive. If you want to know how cute a beauty mark is, think of the music celebrities who have them like Dolly Parton and actors like Collin Farrell.

Don’t they look beautiful?

Besides, beauty mark is the name used to refer to moles, birthmarks, and freckles. Undoubtedly, they all look familiar. But they have very many different characteristics that separate them. Stick here to learn how to differentiate them and more.

What Is A Mole?

A Mole, also called nevi, is a pigmented growth on the skin. The growth can either be flat and smooth or raised and bumpy. They vary in color, from the natural skin color to the color brown or black. You can find moles anywhere on your skin, either alone or in groups, and they can last up to 40-50 years.

This pigmented growth occurs when body cells grow in a cluster instead of spreading throughout the skin. Moles are very common, and most people have about 10-40 moles on the body by the time they are adults. Moreover, they are not contagious, nor do they itch or bleed. However, when you feel them itching or bleeding, visit a dermatologist.

A mole should have ¼ inches in width. If it is more significant than that, visit a dermatologist to examine you. Moreover, there are three types of moles. Let’s know them;

  • Congenital mole-these moles are discovered on the skin when one is born. Most likely, they develop melanoma later on. Melanoma Is a form of cancer that begins in the cells that make pigment melanin called melanocytes.
  • Common nevi-This is the normal mole that is tan or brown and has a distinct edge.
  • Dysplastic nevi-these are more giant moles than a pencil eraser. They are darker at the center and have irregular shapes. This type of mole is a result of inheritance in most cases.

What Is A Birthmark?

A birthmark just as the name is a discoloration that appears on your skin at birth or some few days or weeks after birth. The marks can appear anyplace on your body, and they vary in shape, appearance, color, and size. Most birthmarks are permanent, and some even become larger over time. At the same time, others fade away wholly as one grows.

Birthmarks are harmless and noncancerous. But, some may have underlying medical conditions, although it is rare.

In your life, you must have heard many different stories about birthmarks. One of them is that birthmarks are generated when a pregnant woman drinks hot drinks. And other different stories you may know. All those stories are pure myths and beliefs. Up to date, there are no specific reasons for birthmark formation. People say it is a mark from God, which I also believe.

Types Of Birthmarks

There are two types of birthmarks.

Pigmented Birthmarks

Pigmented birthmark occurs when there are many pigment cells in one area. Pigments are the cells that give the skin its natural color.

Vascular Birthmarks

A vascular birthmark occurs when a blood vessel in a specific part of your skin does not form correctly. The vessel can be more significant than how it is supposed to be, or there can be too many blood vessels in one area, and the cluster appears on the skin. Many children get this type of birthmark.

A common question people ask is, can you get rid of a birthmark?

As we said before, birthmarks are harmless. However, some birthmarks can bring uneasiness. Also, in some instances, they can be removed when they have medical problems or beauty reasons.

The best person to visit when you want to get rid of a birthmark is a dermatologist. They use modern, safe methods to remove the marks. For example, surgeries, laser therapy, oral medicines called beta-blockers and corticosteroids.

However, you can easily differentiate moles and birthmarks. Birthmarks are flat and on the skin’s surface, while a mole rises above the skin.

What Are Freckles?

Freckles are beauty spots similar to moles. Although freckles are brown or tan, they are flat against the skin, while moles are a bit bumpy. The reason why they are dark in colour is that there are more pigment cells in that spot. You can spot them on the face and other parts of the body, and they can be either small or big.

Excess sun moisture causes freckles. Most people affected are light-skin people because their skin cells have extra pigment. If you develop freckles, do not panic because it is normal and believe that you still look beautiful. But, if you are not okay with them, you can get rid of them.

In most cases, freckles appear during summertime and fade away during winter. And others occur naturally. If they don’t fade away, you want to remove them; there are two options to choose from.

You can decide to go the medicinal way. That is, using expensive beauty procedures and chemicals. But some of them react badly to some people’s skin. The other way is using home remedies to get rid of freckles. I prefer the latter even if it takes time to see the changes; it is less expensive and has few or no side effects. What do you need to do?

  • Use lemon- Apply lemon juice to the area with freckles using a piece of clean cloth. Stay for about 20 minutes, then rinse it. Do that three times a week until the freckles fade away.
  • Use Aloe Vera- Apply Aloe Vera gel on the affected area and smoothly massage it. After some time, wash it off with lukewarm water. Do that daily to get rid of them.
  • Apple cider vinegar- Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix them well and apply them to the affected part. Please wait for 30 minutes and wash it with lukewarm water.
  • The other most straightforward way is to avoid staying in the sun for a long time.

The Takeaway

Now you know whether your beauty mark is a mole, birthmark, or freckle. It would be best if you cared for them by checking them regularly in front of a mirror. And when you notice some change in them, don’t hesitate to visit a dermatologist.

From now on, don’t hide them again. Walk shoulder high like a queen because you are gorgeous with them.
